E-commerce Conversion to Sale

So much energy is spent strategizing around search, which is great, but what about spending some time working on the conversion of that traffic when it shows up? This is where Papugai's global approach  to marketing shines and where typical SEO companies fall short.

So... what is conversion? If you ask most people, they will tell you that it's about money ... that is, how many sales you can make compared to how many people visit your website. That's mostly true, but there's a lot more to it.

Let's explore the basics. Here is an example case: You have 10,000 unique visitors coming to your website this month, and 250 of those visitors buy something, and these 250 people represent half of our "known website traffic" (500 visitors) for the month. By "known website traffic," we mean people that have signed up for an account on your website, with our without making a purchase.

In this example case, we would say that we converted 5% to "known traffic," which we can use for future marketing, and we converted half those visitors (2.5%) to "sale," which are dollars in pocket. Not bad, but this would mean that 95% of your website traffic this month falls into the other category that we call, "unknown traffic."

That sounds pretty bleak, doesn't it? 95% down the drain? Why? Can anything be done to reduce this huge number over time and get to "know" some of these people?

The answer is yes... and the numbers might surprise you. If we play the 20 questions game, and do some educated guessing, we can determine some of the reasons why some visitors don't stick around.

A small portion of that unknown traffic came to your website by complete accident. The rest, however, may simply need more reasons to pause and learn more so they too can feel compelled to leave behind some information about themselves, or perhaps even buy something while looking around.

This is where Papugai's conversion strategies shine. Our combination of confidence-building brand presentation, design, usability standards, application logic, and strategies for conversion set the stage to compel far more visitors to participate with you in some way.

Remember, the key is to make money here. So far, in this example, what do we know? Well, we know that we are converting roughly half of your "known traffic" to sale. So it stands to reason that if we can increase that percentage of your overall traffic that we refer to as "known traffic," your sales will increase as well, even if the rate for conversion to sale (50%) stays the same. In fact, by that logic, if we can capture the attention of just 5% of your unknown traffic over a 30-day period, then your overall sales would roughly double in a single month.

There are many different conversion strategies to consider and Papugai has 20 years' experience learning the behavior patterns of may different markets. Let us put that experience to work for you.

Papugai Celebrates
20 Years!

A note of thanks from managing partner.

I looked at the calendar this week and it suddenly hit me... We've been doing this for 20 years. 20 YEARS? Man... That means every time I tell a story about the 1980's (the decade we started all this), I have to stop and realize that roughly half of our professional staff were still in grade school or perhaps not even that.

But it's fun to think about some of those more-than-decade-old client relationships that are still going strong today.   » read more
